‘Heart of Stone’ still Evokes Feeling, Emotion Today (Rare Live Footage)

‘Heart of Stone’ still Evokes Feeling, Emotion Today (Rare Live Footage)

This awesome oldie, classic and goodie tune was originally penned by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and was inspired by their shared love of R&B and the blues; they are a blues rock band primarily. This slower, very artful ballad is one of the more timeless rock and roll pieces that are offered to us by this one of a kind, heartthrob band. ‘Heart of Stone’ was originally released in the United States in late December of 1964. It would not see the light of day in the United Kingdom until September of 1965. ‘Heart of Stone’ would go on to become the Rolling Stones second Top 20 hit on the US charts, ultimately climbing as high as number 19. In 1988 the song would be covered by The Mekons, an underground British Pop/Punk outfit, on their album, “So Good it Hurts.” Later on The Allman Brothers Band would also cover the tune on their 2003 album called, “Hittin’ the Note.” Finally, the Sonic's Rendezvous Band has also covered this song, although we were unable to find which record of theirs it was featured on. Even the lyrics offer some choice usages of verbiage the compliment the intended notion: make girls go crazy everywhere for the Rolling Stones! And if you watch the live footage (bottom center) you will see just how fondly the audiences would respond when they would hear the first chords struck of this hit ballad.
“There've been so many girls that I've known; I've made so many cry and still I wonder why; Here comes the little girl; I see her walking down the street; She's all by herself, I try and knock her off her feet; But she'll never break, never break, never break, never break, This heart of stone.”
Rolling Stones Live on the Ed Sullivan Show Performing ‘Heart of Stone’ Check out this very rare, mid-1960s performance by the Rolling Stones on the always infamous Ed Sullivan Show (which also brought to us many awesome Beatles performances and some timeless, classic footage). Notice how confident the young lead singer and frontman, Mick Jagger, is? Notice how forthright that he looks and feels on stage as he sings right into the minds, eyes, ears and hearts of women across the nation? This was the ambience of true rock and roll…one that very few bands, namely The Rolling Stones, could ever offer during this transitional time period in the United States.
