Whiskey Equals Angry…Rum Equals Happy—What Type of Drinker Are You?

Whiskey Equals Angry…Rum Equals Happy—What Type of Drinker Are You?

Which do you prefer to drink when it comes to serious highball mixers and cocktails? Do you like whiskey for its sour mash and charcoal filtered offerings? Or are you a rum cat that prefers to don a pirate costume (in your mind) and enjoy the happy, amiable attitude that tends to go hand-in-hand with consuming vast amounts of rum when out on the town partying? Either way, you are drinking a well known beverage, that being rum or whiskey. As for this blogger: I am a solely a rum guy…whiskey just brings out the fierce, unadulterated guilt in me and I purge!

Best Two Rum Cocktails
1. Obviously, the rum and Coke concoction has become world famous for its mixture of cola and rum, typically augmented with a sliced lime. Where would we be without this drink?
2. Pina’ Colada: this tasty, coconut mixer is the highball paradise that you see in every vacation to an exotic destination commercial that airs on TV. The sweetness of the coconut and the mixture of fine rum make this drink a bona fide winner!

Best Two Whiskey Cocktails
1. The Jack and Coke has certainly become a staple over the years at bars and nightclubs the world around. The sweet flavor of the whiskey mixed with Coke makes it go down smooth every time.
2. Whiskey Sour: perhaps the most sugary way to down a nice shot of whiskey—this mix drink combines fruit, sweet and sour with whiskey. It’s delicate yet hard hitting offerings make it nearly impossible to taste the whiskey. The end result is that you can easily down far too many of these before even realizing how much whiskey that you have drunk.

Murder City Devils Perform “Rum to Whiskey”
The well known and highly touted national act rock and roll band, Murder City Devils, actually has a great rock and roll song about this conundrum. In the video that is shown below, they are performing their hit song, “Rum To Whiskey” at the Roseland in Portland, Oregon on February 14th, 2009. As you can see, we are not the only people who ponder such intricacies when it comes to something that we drink for fun times! This concept – whether to drink rum or whiskey based upon how they make you feel and act – is nothing new. In reality, whiskey tends to make an angry, sad drunk. Whereas Rum typically makes for a happy drunk; or a pirate in the olden days!
