Endorsement Oddity

As Mitt Romney moves to the presumptive Republican presidential nomination, a number of people are backing him and giving their endorsements.  Besides the regular cast of characters – former presidents (Bush 1), Governors (Christie, Rubio) and Congressman (Bohner, et al) it seems that there are quite a variety of eclectic personalities also throwing their weight behind Romney.  Some of those include Donald Trump, Gene Simmons, Herman Cain, Ted Nugent, and Kid Rock.  Which one will make the biggest difference?

Ted Nugent spent some time this weekend at the NRA convention making a slew of over-the-top comments about President Obama.  Calling the President “vile,” “evil,” and “America-hating,” Nugent used little tact.  But, if that wasn’t enough, he also expressed displeasure for the Obama administration by saying they are “wiping (their) ass with the Constitution.”  Then implied threat by stating that “I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year” if Obama wins a second term.  Sounds like a perfect spokesman for the Romney campaign.

Who’s next to offer their words of wisdom in support of Mr. Romney?  Maybe Donald Trump will offer his birther beliefs to Romney while recommending he watch episodes of Celebrity Apprentice to help a potential Romney administration.

How about appointing Gene Simmons to be the spokesman for the Romney camp’s morality and family values platform?  Who better to encourage monogamy than the rocker who claims to have slept with 4,600 plus women? And if Simmons isn’t available to help, Herman Cain can stand as the icon for Romney’s side of the war on women.

Of course, Romney could use an advisor to help on his campaign for restoring law and order in America.  Kid Rock, who has been arrested multiple times, could be that person.  Who better to help restore America to greatness than a man with a sex-tape?

What is the weirdest part of all of this is that Romney is enthusiastically accepting the endorsements from those mentioned above.  Wouldn’t he be better off to distance himself from those mentioned above?  With the Republican elite holding back from enthusiastically endorsing him, Romney seems to be grasping endorsements from whoever offers.
