The Godfather – Cool Game, Still not GTA Though!

I loved the movies, I loved the game. But that still does not mean that it stacks up to original founder of these games—the car stealing, cop killing, work your way up to the very top of the criminal underworld games—Grand Theft Auto. However, I would much rather have a free world game to play around in and do much more things than the latter. So, even if GTA was the first and the only, other games like this are still awesome in their own rights. Even if they do seem like a little bit of a rip off of the illustrious Grand Theft Auto series from time to time, at least The Godfather, truly holds its own on the Xbox 360 and is a decent mobster game unlike any other currently available. Now on to the scoop…shall we? This game is the latest and grandest attempt by EA to make their fight against Rockstar’s dominating series of Grand Theft Auto, and while the sales never really added up in the realm of the thing, the game is not all that bad either. The only thing that the game actually has in common with the popular movie trilogy are the names and a few similar voice over actors, however, other than that, it does its own thing, which kinda peeved me off in a way because it’s a bit misleading to the connotation of the title, don’t you think? The P33 version offered gamers a bit more, like added side missions and other trinkets, but the Xbox 360 has better graphics. The premise of this game is killing and being killed. There are some really long missions that do offer plenty of checkpoints and decent, if not totally unoriginal plots, that still make it worth beating. However, the missions do become a bit redundant after a bit, and glitchy and a sporadic control set will drive you nuts. The people found roaming in this huge free world are cut and pasted all over the place, and you can literally see the same person in the same outfit about ten times on every street – annoying. The cars suffer from this same aberration, making this game seem like it was rushed during production. After killing a bunch of people while on a mission, you almost forget why you are on the mission to begin with.
“All in all, this game could have been a lot better. And because it seems shady, sloppy and so-so, it never will stack up to GTA. Hey EA don’t you know that you own Madden, the King of Football, and Rockstar owns Grand Theft Auto the King of Free-World Shooters? Yeah…and let’s try and keep it that way. You do what you do for sports, and they do what they do for shooters. It’s just better this way in the end!”
