Running stairs like a boss in Mandalay

Run stair repeats at Mandalay Hill

It’s come to that point. You’ve dragged your way through some runs while traveling, but you want to feel like a real runner again. There aren’t any 5Ks around Myanmar you can just hop into, and let’s be real, you are a little pudgy and lacking that tone you have while at home. The only reasonable answer is a workout, and a workout is what you will get. Stair repeats is on the agenda while visiting Mandalay.

The best place to do stair repeats is at Mandalay Hill, right outside the city center in Mandalay, Myanmar. The hill itself has become a destination for many tourists, but locals alike frequent it, and some, in fact, find residence on the stairs climb.

To start, head to the bottom of the hill. Street side hustlers will try to kill your drive by offering moto rides up to the top, but you are determined, and ready to work hard. You have to remove your shoes at the start (barefoot day!), but don’t fall for leaving them at the bottom; this will cost you 200 Kyat, and will stop you from some of the workout.
