The Myanmar Government

An elephant in the room.

I wanted to wait to write this blog until I left the country. I had an amazing month visiting Myanmar, but like most places, there are some goods and bads. The government is definitely an elephant in the room while visiting the country, but often times, it isn’t even referred to. Though it isn’t always abundant, it does dictate the culture while traveling in Myanmar.

My first experience with bizarre government rules was at the airport. After trucking through immigration, I tried to exchange my USD for Myanmar Kyat. Though I had crisp $100 bills, as suggested, I was told that my particular series of bill wasn’t accepted. My USD might as well have been toilet paper.
