Mild Winter Good News for Many Exterminators

Increase in insect activity already noticed in some areas

An unusually mild winter across most of the country is resulting in an increase in the number of insects in many Midwestern areas. In Indianapolis, Indiana, pest control companies claim they are already seeing an increase in business over this time last year. Many are attributing this to the fact that a warmer winter has resulted in bugs coming out earlier than normal.

In central Indiana, termites and carpenter ants normally begin showing signs of activity in early March according to a Terminex spokesperson. This year, the company began recording instances of termite and carpenter ant activity in mid to late February. It seems that the lack of a hard freeze over most of the state is responsible for the sooner-than-normal insect activity.
