The secular vs. religious homeschool

Out of the mouths of babes!

Yes, I homeschool. No, I am not a fundamental Christian. I do not insist the world is 5,000 years old, nor do I jam my fingers in my ears and yell “La, La, La” at the mere mention of Darwin. I do not wear denim jumpers, nor am I subservient to my husband or popping out a kid a year. If you met me and my kids on the street, we definitely would not fit the standard “homeschool” stereotype. And yes, I'm a bit proud of this.

We have a Christian bookshop that mainly caters to the stereotypical homeschool crowd. We don't go their often, because most of the curriculum offered is Christian-based, but they have a few secular choices and hey, how much could they Christian-ize math? I had to go there today, my youngest flew through his math curriculum in a month. Then he devoured the fourth grade math I had in reserve. I have new curriculum on order, but it won't arrive for at least a week so I needed something, anything, to feed the insatiable beast. I should have known I was making a mistake.
