Any good mexican food in Seattle

Seattle is seriously lacking in good Mexican food. Most of what passes for "Mexican" is nothing but glorified, over-priced Taco Bell, and to be honest I prefer Taco Bell. It's cheap and has a drive-thru. All the "family" style restaurants are bland and indistinguishable from each other, and the 'decor' at some of these establishments is garish and stereotypical. There are a few places that stand out for the flavor and authenticity of the food. So where does one find good Mexican food in Seattle? Here are my picks: 5. Blue Water Taco Grill 4. Taco Bell 3. Galerias 2. Taqueria El Rinconsito 1. El Puerco Lloron

Fall fashion trends: purple, plaid, tweed, and lace

Fall Fashions have arrived and it's a lot of the same-old, same-old we've been seeing the last couple of years, with a few exceptions.  This season is all about textures.  Check out this site for all the fashion shows this fall, from Milan to London to New York City.  Here are some highlights from this season's runways. Purple- the new black for the season- is showing up every where on the runways.  Once the preferred color of frumpy high school English teachers, now purple is all the rage. Plaids- isn't it still too soon to bring back the 90s?  Apparently not, Marc Jacobs is going grunge this season with some plaid pieces that look like they came from the Goodwill.  Charlotte Ronson's plaid mini-dress is a better interpretation of the grunge-inspired look. Tweeds- my favorite fall textile is brought up to-date by Chanel, and beautifully done by Ralph Lauren as well.  This versatile material can be paired with any of the afore-mentioned trends. Lace- a romantic classic making a come-back this fall.  Luisa Beccaria and Chanel offered the more classier looks in lace: evening dresses and lace ensembles in earthy tones were the winners.

Woman-owned wine company helps underprivileged girls

The O Wine company in Woodinville, WA is not only known for their tasty chardonnay but also for their altruistic ventures. The woman-owned company is helping young, underprivileged women achieve their dreams of attending college. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the wine goes toward a scholarship fund. O Wines Chardonnay is a zesty, fruity wine that pairs well with shellfish, crab, salmon and salads. It's full-flavored and refreshing, a good summertime wine. O Wines is available at most grocery stores, and it's inexpensive, retails for about $12.99.

Billboard provokes questions about religion

A billboard reading Imagine No Religion, sponsored by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, went up in the city of Seattle. The billboard is in a space at the base of the Capitol Hill neighborhood, near downtown. Not exactly the church-going center of the city, but Mike Christensen the man who paid for the ad, doesn't care. His idea behind the controversial billboard is not to judge religion or people with religious beliefs, but to provoke people to question religion's role in government. A similar billboard went up near the Democratic Convention that read Keep Religion Out of Politics. The Wisconsin-based foundation has been actively promoting the separation of church and state since 1978. In Seattle the billboard has had an overall positive effect, with FFRF gaining new and prospective new members. But in some cities where the billboard has also appeared, the group has received hate mail. I've seen the billboard myself, and I found it intriguing enough to find out who and why it was put up. Has anyone else seen this billboard? Is this just more anti-God propaganda?

Elimination of poverty could lead to world peace...maybe

The elimination of poverty could lead to world peace. At least that is what some people believe. But are the problems facing humanity today as simple as that? Not that poverty is a simple problem, but with one problem tackled is the question of world peace solved? Maybe not, but poverty-stricken countries are a breeding ground for extremism, so says a new report about the lack of foreign aide to impoverished nations. Check out this in-depth story about how money, or lack there of can have a domino effect in nations where poverty along with social injustice can lead to oppressive government action, and the formation of extremist groups. It seems like a hopeless task to achieve peace on this planet. Our governments seem to be missing the point about what needs to be done in order for the senseless killing to end. Here's an organization that has been dedicated to the peace movement for 50 years. It's nice to know there's still people out there ready for the biggest challenge facing our species.

A day in the life of Barbie

Did you ever wonder what a day in the life of Barbie would look like? Naturally, anyone of us who has ever played with Barbie has created her own version of what her doll's life is like, but did any of us make a video of it? I found this funny video that follows Barbie throughout her day. The video begins with Barbie getting up in the morning with a male doll, presumably her husband. She has breakfast and later hooks up with her friend Lucie for a day of shopping. Barbie closes the night with some hanky-panky with her male doll-friend. The ending scene is very cute and funny. Has anyone else seen this? I thought it was a light-hearted and sweet look at Barbie. My computer has no sound right now, so I don't know if there was any commentary being made throughout the video, it's possible I might be wrong. Does anyone else agree?
