"Beer on a Stick" is sadly, not beer on a stick
When I first heard of Beer on a Stick, I thought for sure that it was a new exotic flavour of popsicle, or something to that effect. I was intrigued. But, alas, Beer on a Stick is just a tacky gadget to hold your beer cup. According to the maker of this product, Beer on a Stick will keep your beer icy cold by keeping your warm hands off the glass.
Seriously? This product was featured on Donny Deutsch Big Idea. Here's another big idea, try drinking your beer before it gets warm, or try not holding your beer in your hands for prolonged periods. Or even better, try a mug with a handle!
J.Lo will be a no-show at Project Runway finale
If you were hoping to see J. Lo on Project Runway, you'll be sorely disappointed. Jennifer Lopez pulled out from the show, where she was scheduled to be the guest celebrity judge for the finale episode. According to her people, Lopez dropped out of the show after injuring her foot while training for a triathlon. This sounds like a very serious injury if she can't even sit on her butt and blab about fashion. Will she be able to compete in the triathlon?
Well, according to reports, she did just fine in the competition in Malibu. So well, that right after the race, she threw a surprise birthday party for husband Skeletor Anthony. That's one quick recovery!
There's rumors that J.Lo pulled out due to bad blood between her and the Weinstein Production Company, the same people who produce Project Runway. Apparently, J.Lo thought she'd be getting a part in one of their projects, but was later told no, so she dropped out of the Runway gig.
That's really grown-up and classy, Jenny from the block!
Temple Symbols
I was visiting Temple Square over the holidays and asked (I've wondered before and have looked up "opinions") what all the symbols on the Temple in Salt Lake and Logan mean. My LDS friend, who was married in the Temple, nor his wife knew. They actually never even noticed before. Most of the stuff I read on the .net is from anti mormon sites, but I can't find any info. from mormon (pro or just info) sites. Anyone know, or can share their ideas, readings ect. I've read much on the Mason connection, goatshead star(one point down), the Egyptian "all seeing eye" and so on. There seems to be a strong connection between the Mason's and LDS church. It's common knowledge that Joe Smith and B. Young were members of this organization, it's also common knowledge of Joe's interests in magic, superstition, seer stones, and the Jupiter talisman found in his pocket when killed in IL. Is there "official" LDS Church records on line, or in print, that one can read?

Crafty ideas for baby gifts
I was feeling crafty today and while looking for ideas for a gift for my new nephew I came across this really nice blog. The person who runs it posted some great photos of cards, blankets, and a bib that could be made by hand. The items are classy and practical. Any mom would be happy with a homemade gift like this.
And if you're tired of the going to same old baby shower over and over again, consider this Danish tradition. I wish I had told my sister about it before I threw her one.
The Clique: Girls literature gone awry
There's a series of novels for teen girls called The Clique by Lisi Harrison. The books are getting the attention of ABC News, read more here. There's some questionable content in the books, mostly because it tells the story of a group of shallow, popular girls who are obsessed with material things and their weight. I found it curious that the author, Lisi Harrison claims the books are satyrical, and intended to shed light on what being in the "in-crowd" is all about.
"It's fantasy. It's aspirational. I, being the person that never got to wear designer clothes growing up, as most girls in the country can't," Harrison said. "It's 'Oh, my God. What would it feel like to do that?' Dare to dream. It's like, you know, saying 'Harry Potter is not real, but wouldn't we all love to be magic and be able to do magic?' It's that same thing."The author goes on to say that these books help expose the hollow lives of these material tweens by painting an exaggerated picture of a glamorous life. I remember when I was a tween all the girls were reading about the Wakefield twins in the Sweet Valley Twins series. If anyone recalls, the twins Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield embodied All-American perfection, it was sometimes offensive and racist, no satire there. Is the Clique an updated version of this idealized adolescence where the heroines are popular, beautiful, wealthy and white? The author makes the claim that these books help girls understand, what exactly, it's hard to say. Girls have enough pressures from everywhere and about everything, why not address these issues head-on rather than disguising them with superficiality. When all my friend's were reading about the Wakefield twins, I preferred the books by Judy Blume. I know, I always bring her up, but it seems to me that the authors of girls literature these days are more focused on the denial of the real core issues girls are facing today. Why not write about girls who are not afraid to different? Or about girls who make a positive impact on their friends? Does anyone remember role models? These books are aimed at preparing girls for the next tier in this type of literature: the trashy romance novel. I asked my ten year-old if she'd heard of these books and she confirmed that these books are indeed favorites of her friends', but she prefers Harry Potter.
