Friends of the Obamas

Saturday, December 13th 10:05pm Dear Diary, After reading the New York Times article about our friends, Valerie Jarrett, Martin Nesbitt, and Dr. Eric Whitaker, I can’t help but think about how much they have done for Barack and me. Before I even came into the picture, they were a close-knit group of friends for Barack. And they were so warm and welcoming for me, that I instantly fell in love with his friends. We’ve gone on vacations together, barbeques, tennis lessons, and been through thick and thin together – births, deaths, and all that’s in between. But these guys were forced into the spotlight when Barack began running for office, and more so when he ran for the presidency. I imagine the public scrutiny has been difficult, but they’ve all come through as true friends, standing by Barack and me every step of the way. We’ve all gotten together more over the holidays, since that long campaign is finally over. And we’re all especially looking forward to another vacation in Hawaii together. But as the article discussed, it’s so sad that we have to plan out when we can see out friends. It’s sad that we have to stay in such isolation while Barack is in the White House. And even then, there’s so much Secret Service around, that we’ll never truly be alone. But we do feel fortunate to know that we’ll always have such wonderful people as friends. This is one of my sappier entries, but since the passing of Barack’s grandmother and Thanksgiving, I’ve begun to realize that we really have to celebrate and cherish all that we have. Yours always, Michelle Originally posted in The Secret Diary of Michelle Obama

need help

I am mormon and I know the church is true. I have a testimony that it is, and no one can deny this. But is it a good idea to try and talk to people on the internet and try to give them a book of mormon? or have missionarys come to their house? Whever I go, they just say Thanks but no thanks. SHould I just leave them alone after they say that?

Crime and Punishment?

Saturday, December 13th 11:10pm Dear Diary, In thinking back over my last diary entry, where I talked about whether Barack will invoke the Executive Privilege, so often used by George W. Bush, I can’t help but wonder what will happen once Bush leaves office. Dick Cheney and Alberto Gonzales have already been indicted in Texas for abusing prisoners in federal detention centers. Cheney was indicted for showing a conflict in interest and engaging in organized criminal activity related to his investment in the Vanguard Group, one of the private companies running these the prisons. If that’s not enough, Gonzales was indicted for using his position to stop an investigation in 2006 into abuses at one of the privately-run prisons. And in my opinion, this just the tip of a very deep and very criminal iceberg. But what happens when Bush leaves office? George W. Bush, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, and several others in the Bush Administration should be at least indicted for the host of crimes they’ve committed, from misuse of office and abuse of power to war crimes and treason. But will they? Bush might claim that he and the members of his administration are forever protected under the umbrella of Executive Privilege. In a just world, Bush should have been impeached long ago. After all, Clinton was impeached for lying about having sex. Think of all that the Bush Administration has done. In fact, when we compare all that to the petty crimes of Blagojevich,  one can see who are the truly corrupt politicians. I wonder if Bush and his administration will have to pay for their crimes like other criminals. Until next time, Joe the Veep

skin irritation

My dal sleeps with me. And recently I have developed a kind of rash or skin irritation. I'm not sure if I had an allergic reaction to something. Or if Penelope, my 5 1/2 month old dalmation has a condition that doesn't show up on her, but makes little raised bumps one me. She has been sleeping with me for about 3 months, and this just started about 3 weeks ago.
