City is open for business, but not quite back to full speed
What a difference one week makes: This time last week I was absolutely in a state of utter panic, as Hurricane Isaac prepared to bare down on Louisiana, taking direct aim at New Orleans. Now, one week later, I can tell you that for the most part, the metro area was spared any major damage. The $14 billion federal levee system around the city did it's job. My heart, of course, goes out to the other areas outside of the federal system, because a lot of local levees were overwhelmed by the torrential rains.
But for travelers, the question is: Is it OK to visit New Orleans now? My answer? Yes, but be prepared for a few snags along the way.
