Three unpleasant truths about Internet dating

Or, three reasons why it might be best to avoid it.
  1. Many people treat dating sites just like any old social network.

I've seen quite a few profiles posted by women who list themselves as being in a relationship already and who claim they are seeking "friends."   In fact, one woman at Plentyoffish.com proudly listed her status as “living together.”  Another girl at Plentyoffish specifically stated in her profile that she had a boyfriend and was just there seeking friends.  In essence, the word “dating” has become an oxymoron for those kinds of websites.

  1. Bullies, kooks and scam artists love to lurk at them.

On another “dating”  website whose name eludes me at the moment I got a nasty e-mail from a stuck-up prima donna female who told me she had a boyfriend whom she professed to love “very dearly” and then added that even if she were single she would not go out with me. All in response to a polite e-mail I had sent! The chat room at Plentyoffish.com was a haven for such kinds of Internet bullying as well.
