Mardi Gras celebrations in the country of Belgium.
Every country with any Catholic heritage whatsoever has their own version of the Mardi Gras celebrations going on somewhere each year. In Belgium it’s called the Carnival of Binche, named for the small, medieval town in which the best known of these Mardi Gras carnivals takes place. It starts up on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday of each year and continues to the Tuesday before. Although other carnivals of this type can be found throughout the country, Binche is the place to be if you want to experience the most famous carnival event in the country.
