The subject of forced abortions in China has long been a topic of intense controversy. From outside of the country come cries of outrage and now, thanks to the power of social media, those living within China are voicing their dissent loudly. The latest issue comes in the form of a woman who was dragged away by police, beaten and then forcibly made to have an abortion during her seventh month of pregnancy. Under the one-child policy, she could have been allowed to pay a $6300 fine, though was unable to afford it. Photos taken of the woman with the corpse of her stillborn child have been circulating across the Internet and sparking backlash among both China’s citizens and those of prominent standing.
