Legalizing Murder: South Dakota Says, “Kill the Abortionists!”

You know how those of us who are pro-choice are always raging about how people against abortion are often perfectly happy to send citizens to death row, execute minors or send them off to war, or kill doctors in the name of their cause, and that obviously, as such, not all life is truly sacred to them—only the supposed life they can use to control women? It turns out that they are interested in making such rhetoric into law via new legislation in South Dakota.

A proposed bill known as HB1171 would make it “justifiable homicide” if a person kills another in order to protect a fetus. That’s right: you could walk into a church and shoot a doctor. You could blow up a clinic. You could attack a doctor in his home, if you know that he or she is going to be performing abortions in the morning. It would be considered justifiable.

Politicians in South Dakota are hoping to make the business of saving women’s lives an act punishable by vigilante death.

Wow, if only we could be given the same type of protection when we’re being stalked or beaten or raped or nearly-raped (or rape-raped?), eh, ladies? How about making it justifiable homicide to murder a handsy uncle we find with his hand up a loved one’s dress? Maybe it could be considered justifiable homicide to murder someone who threatens the life of his dog—since, after all, that dog is a living, breathing, sentient being. You know, the legalization of murdering actual threats to actual real, living beings.

Also known as “an invitation to murder abortion doctors,” this legislation simply cannot come to pass. Not only is it an outrage to all doctors, all women, and pretty much everyone on the planet, it also A. promotes domestic terrorism, which should probably be frowned upon somewhere or another in our legal system by now, right? (otherwise, I demand an immediate cease and desist of idiotic airport searches) and B. opens the door for so many different interpretations of the law that we could pretty much get by with killing anyone we choose.

I’m sorry, Judge Wapner, but I thought the life of a fetus a woman was maybe carrying down the street was in danger, so I shot everyone on the block. You don’t have to thank me; knowing the potential baby may live is enough for me. And what about if the woman tries to abort the fetus herself? Would killing her be justified, too? Where would it end? The entire thing is monstrous and should be struck down immediately. The fact that it even emerged from a committee when so many important issues in need of action rarely do is an offense to our political system—not that it has much integrity to begin with, of course.
