This week brought with it the fifth in an ongoing series of meetings of a U.S. House of Representative committee that is attempting to determine the extent and effects of Islamic radicalization within the Muslim-American community. Dubbed “The American Muslim Response to Hearings on Radicalization Within Their Community,” the committee was set up following the events of 9/11 and is currently organized by Representative Peter King.
In its five hearings, the committee has discussed everything from how Islam is taking shape within independent communities and prisons to the potential for terrorist recruitment within Muslim organizations. It’s been more than 10 years since 9/11 and many on the committee feel they are debating the same old subjects and making little headway. Some question the viability of the committee given that terrorist attacks on the US have been almost nonexistent in recent years.
