Every once in a while you come across something in the news that makes you feel optimistic about the state of religious affairs between the West and the Islamic world. Instead of the usual hatred that seems to permeate religious interactions everywhere, Kenyan Christians and Muslims are showing solidarity in the face of tragedy.
The tragedy consists of attacks made last Sunday against Christian churches. Gunmen shot-up two churches filled with worshippers, killing 17 people and wounding many more. The government is saying that the attackers are members of an extremist group trying to promote conflict between the two religions following Kenya’s involvement in Somalia fighting against the extremist Islamic group, al-Shabaab.
