Sometimes beating your fists on a punching bag or smashing random objects just isn’t enough to get the day’s accumulated rage out of your system. Sometimes it requires a more indirect approach, one that lets you engage in wonton destruction, wield very large weapons and kill vicious enemies. This is the world of the Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) gaming experience.
MMOs such as World of Warcraft (WoW) have become insanely popular among both computer junkies and casual users alike. People build their characters, jump into the game and then exercise their virtual power in a cathartic way that lets them leave the real world behind for just a bit. Perhaps these games even save lives, preventing anger from building up in one’s systems and keeping a real-life fist from meeting head-on with the boss’s face. However they achieve the result, people game to get it all out of their system.
