A four-day-long party with some of the friendliest people you’re likely to meet.
During the first weekend in August the entire country of Iceland celebrates a holiday known as Verslunarmannahelgi, or “commerce weekend.” It is the country’s version of what the U.S. knows as Labor Day or the U.K. is familiar with as Bank Holiday. This event takes place all weekend and up through the Monday after. Began in 1874, festivals and celebrations are held all over the place in Iceland, though few can match the size and intensity of the Westmann Islands Festival.
