It’s no secret that China is one of the manufacturing giants of the world. Much of the stuff we consume here in the U.S. is made elsewhere and exported back to us, despite being products American companies. Labor is cheap there, so that’s where businesses choose to outsource their manufacturing. One particular set of items made in China is causing quite the uproar, however. As it turns out, the U.S. Olympic team uniforms are the result of Chinese labor.
People are genuinely upset upon finding out about this ‘dirty little secret.’ One Senator went so far as to say that the uniforms should be thrown into a pile and burned. That seems a bit extreme to me, but considering the nationalistic element that is at the core of the Olympics, it’s understandable that people would be at least a little angry about the situation.
