EC Comics. One of the most influential and probably the stepping stone for future comic books was the American publisher Entertaining Comics. They got their start in 1944 when Maxwell Gaines called it “Educational Comics” and printed comics of historical nature, and also Bible stories as well. Gaines was the pioneer in the American comic book with “Funnies on Parade” and “Famous Funnies: A Carnival of Comics” for Dell Publishing.
Sadly, Maxwell Gaines died three years after creating Entertaining Comics and his son William inherited the business. William was in the Army for four years and had plans to be a chemistry teacher. This never happened and he ended up taking over the family business. He opened up a line of horror, sci fi, military and crime fiction and changed the name to Entertaining Comics.
