I have been a Muppet fan for life, and I’ve been boycotting Chick-Fil-A for over a year, ever since I heard about how the company funnels money into anti-gay rights campaigns. So you can bet when I heard that The Muppets pulled their kids’ meal packs and all other ties with the company due to its anti-gay agenda—which I discovered about a minute ago—I cheered loudly. And woke people up.
This is a huge step in shedding light on a company that claims to be family-friendly when it is in fact anything but, hatefully providing the funding for denying gay families the right to be together. In a statement, The Jim Henson Company noted that they’ve supported diversity for over fifty years—hello, Rainbow Connection, anyone?—and that Lisa Henson is personally very invested in gay rights, so they will no longer be partnering with the fast food chain because of its disregard for both.
If you look at the company’s Facebook page, you’ll laughably see a statement about how they support people of all faiths, diversity, sexual orientations, blah blah blah… (Along with this hilarious BS statement about why the toys were pulled; I love this explanation that Upworthy posted better.) Yet they prove this by providing funding AGAINST said people and they expect to earn their money? Hmm.
