Described on the covers of his books as “Mexico’s leading novelist,” Carlos Fuentes is famous for novels like The Old Gringo, the first U.S. bestseller by a Mexican author, and Where the Air Is Clear (La Religion Mas Transparente), which was recommended to me by some Mexican friends as his most important work.
