As many no doubt already know, this last weekend saw the city of Beijing hit with major flooding. It was the worst flood on record in more than 60 years, with rivers overflowing their banks, highways being buried beneath the waves and cars being swept aside like so much driftwood. Loss of lives numbered a reported 37 with more than 8000 homes destroyed and an estimated $780 million in total damages. While natural disasters are something that people in most parts of the world have to deal with at one time or another, in this case the government of China is taking some serious flak from its citizens.
