Employee donates kidney, gets fired

When employers behave badly

A Long Island, NY woman claims to have donated her kidney to save the life of her boss, and was then fired for her good deed. Debbie Stevens worked for the Atlantic Automotive Group in New York where she first met her boss, Jackie Brucia, in 2009. Stevens later moved to Florida, but decided to relocate back to New York in 2010.

During an office visit at AAG, Brucia told Stevens that she was in dire need of a kidney, and that the transplant would likely save her life. It was at this point that Debbie Stevens offered to donate one of her kidneys to Brucia, if necessary.
