The Nuremberg Trials, so named for the location where they were held in Nuremberg, Germany, were instrumental in helping to resolve many of the atrocities that occurred during World War II. The location of Nuremberg was decided upon by the leaders of the allied countries for a number of reasons. They believed that this historic event should be held in the same location where the crimes had been committed – Germany - but also, Nuremberg was considered the birthplace of the Nazi party and having the trials there would prove symbolic of the Nazi’s total defeat. From 1945 to 1946, these trials commenced and resulted in the imprisonment and death of many of Germany’s top military, political and economic leaders.
