One of the more interesting combative hobbies that has come about due to technology is that of robot combat. Human beings construct robots to compete against each other in an effort to prove who can build the better machine. For a while this hobby was made famous by television programs such as Robot Wars, Battlebots and Robotica, though eventually the steam ran out of those media productions and it has since returned to its origin as a garage hobby for engineering enthusiasts.
In order to compete, each person is required to have a remote-controlled robot that they are willing to pit against others, for better or for worse. There are several ways to do this, including one-on-one combat, elimination-style tournaments and battle royale/last robot standing competitions. The combats are divided among weight classes, with robots ranging from as little as 75 grams to more than 300 pounds. This creates a variety of combat styles, from small and quick to huge and armor-plated, each requiring its own skill set to build and successfully compete with.
