China is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and one that, as a result, has to deal with many changes to the fundamental nature of its society. Shifting from a communist to a free-market system and from a rural to an urban based economy presents a seemingly endless barrage of challenges. One of these is the huge wealth disparity that has emerged. And though China has not yet climbed to number one (or even past the United States), if things continue the way they are, it won’t be long before this threat of economic instability becomes a reality.
