As an Internet dweller, I'm used to the old saying that people tend to not pick up on cues from the typed word as easily as if they had heard the words spoken to them. i.e. if I tell a statement verbally, the listener would pick up on if it was said in anger, boredom, sarcasm, seriousness ect. But online there is no 'tone' to let on if the 'speaker' was feeling any of these things. Just text. So it lands on the reader to guess if there is a tone to the text and then to respond.
