Many people know Winston Churchill for his achievements during the trying times of World War II. What some don’t realize, however, is that if weren’t for Churchill’s foresight and actions before the war, the United Kingdom would not have been able to hold out against the Nazi forces when those times came.
Born into a military lifestyle, Churchill attended Royal Military College and fought with the army in many conflicts. He wrote several books about his experiences in battle and became a war correspondent for a time. He held a number of governmental positions in the UK before finally taking on the role of Prime Minster from May of 1940 to July of 1945. And though he did not bring Britain into the war with Germany, he was the right man at the right time, leading to a great British defense at a time when things were looking hopeless.
