Maybe the easiest way to see the twin-values system is in English soccer. They have a regular-season "winner," and they think of that club as the EPL's finest team.
Then, of course, they have the F.A. Cup (and these days, what is more to the point, winner of the Champions League), and the Brits are well aware that they're talking about "Champions" in those tournaments.
They enjoy the best of both worlds, and are totally self-aware while they're at it. :- )

It's true that luck plays a part in a short series. Jack Nicklaus said he won a lot of tournaments, and several majors, by hanging tough when behind, and then capitalizing on a lucky break.
And that was bad …. why?
