This is one battle sport that’s been around for quite some time. In fact, people have been ramming vehicles together almost since the time that cars were capable of going fast enough to cause each other real damage. Still, though smashing things has long been a human habit, the actual practice of putting on a demolition derby show didn’t become popular until the 50s.
The basic premise, for those that have never heard of it, involves taking old, worn out cars and, ironically, fixing them up good enough to destroy again. The drivers then take these operating automobiles and throw them into an arena where they can slam into each other over and over until only one car remains running.
