Running at Buak Hat Public Park

Chiang Mae, Thailand

Running in a city in an unfamiliar country isn’t always fun. It’s hard enough to dodge traffic when you know where you are going, but even more so when you are trying to figure out the best direction to go. Stop and go traffic, hitting speed lights and any other road block that breaks your stride can put  a real damper on your run. Unfortunately, though, sometimes you need to suck it up and hit the sidewalk in the city.

Unless you have some form of transportation, a run in Chiang Mae will involve at least 5K of busy street running. Your run will consist of weaving in and out of screaming scooters and trying to avoid taxis that seem to think you need a ride to wherever you are going. The smell from street vendors’ carts will tempt all along the way, and people will stare at you like you are crazy. On top of that, it’s really freaking humid. But with all this being said, there is a sanctuary within the madness.
