Children's Literature gets political

Barack Obama and John McCain want your children to know who they are and where they came from.  Check out this article in the New York Times that gives a run-down on the new trend in political literature aimed at kids.  I don't want to go so far as to call it propaganda, but there is something fishy about the timing of the release of these books. Take for instance "My Dad, John McCain" written by Meghan McCain, in which the candidate's daughter tells her readers why she thinks her father should be the next president.  It tells the story of John McCain's early life, his experience as a POW and his rise in the Republican Party.  It's clear that this is a book written very lovingly by a devoted daughter, but it makes no sense that this book should be targeted at readers who are not old enough to vote.  Read more here:
"There are a few things you need to know about my dad, and one of them is that if he is elected, he would make a great president. But to know what makes him great, you have to hear his story first."
It seems a bit transparent, don't you think? McCain is not alone, Barack Obama is hip to the trend, though the new children's books about his life were not written by his daughter, the new children's books about his life aim to give young readers a picture of a benevolent Obama and his humble beginings. "Barack" written by Jonah Winter and "Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child Hope" written by Nikki Grimes, are books that glorify and lionize the presidential candidate.  There is something a little creepy about the way these books treat Mr. Obama as if he were the next Messiah.  You can read a couple of reviews here and here. There's no doubt that McCain and Obama want to reach everyone, but I have to wonder if children's literature is the appropriate medium for campaigning.  Neither of these two men has become president yet, there is no historical relevance.  As the writer in the New York Times stated:
"Let’s perform a brief thought experiment. Let’s imagine the same saucer-eyed prose being written about Michael Dukakis, John Kerry or Al Gore — or for that matter, either George Bush. Nope. Doesn’t quite translate."

Dear Diary,

Still furious over e-mail hacking. That littleâ??I can't even say it. Thought password completely secure, but apparently â??missalaska1984â? not as difficult to guess as would have expected. At least they didnâ??t find the e-mails to Levi that talked about that oneâ??

John walked in while I was in the middle of inscribing rage into diary. Confused for moment as John generally in bed by 8PM except for debate nights, but apparently sleep was disrupted by Secret Service-related nightmares. Asked what he would do in these circumstances. After 20 minute explanation of concept of ‘e-mail hacking,’ finally understood and said that once he’d been in a similar situation when “an unruly young person” asked if it was problem that he was “like, really old.” John got out of it by saying, “Thanks for the question, you little jerk. You’re drafted. Briefly explored possibility of draft for David Kernell, but trust federal courts will take care of it.

Wanted to send e-card to Levi as congratulations for gettinâ?? married early and avoidinâ?? dangerous and pervertinâ?? college experience leadin' to depraved future life as Yahoo e-mail account hacker, but laptop has been confiscated due to new restrictions on Internet use.

Still have only New York Times to read.

Love yah!

New speech with message of change will render crowd speechless

Monday, October 13th

1:22AM

Dear Diary,

Up late writing next inspirational speech. Reminded by speech writers that must be avoid being too inspirational and inadvertently inspiring mob violence. Have heard Secret Service not too happy about mob violence these days.

Finished first draft. Will bring crowd to knees, though not in creepy exorcism-type way like in YouTube video of priest and Palin. Speech is so brilliant that nearly cried while writing, so read aloud to Michelle in hopes of impressing her and making up for argument over behavior at last debate. Also inspired tears, though apparently was not because of beautiful eloquence of writing but because of imagined masses of alcohol-related deaths as listeners played drinking game with words “hope” and “change.” Made me take out almost all inspirational keywords.

But what we know—what we have seen—what we hope—is that America can change. That is the true changing genius of this hopeful nation. What we have already achieved through change and hope gives us more hope—the audacity to hope for change—for what we can hopefully change and must achieve tomorrow.

It requires all hopeful Americans to realize that your hopes and dreams do not have to come at the expense of my hopes and dreams; that investing in changing the health, welfare and education of black and brown and white children will ultimately and hopefully help all of America change and prosper.

I would not be running for president if I didn't believe with all the hope in my heart that this is exactly what the change that the vast majority of Americans want for this hopeful and changeable country. This union may never be perfect and may always need change, change spurred by hope, but generation after generation has shown that it can always be perfected through hope and change.

At least lack of change in polls good news. Still in lead!

Hopefully yours,

Barack

Web Health and Wealth Opportunity--The Next Trillion Dollar Industry

According to a Louis Harris poll, 96% of the public is lying awake at night due to two fundamental issues: Health Issues and Finances. Also, with the economy being what it is today in the USA and elsewhere in the world, many people are looking to diversify and expand their sources of income. In that regard, we would like to introduce you to the following website: www.webhealthandwealth.com We represent a research and development company that is truly outstanding in their field. Many believe they are going to change the face of healthcare worldwide. They have actually discovered the "missing link" as to how the 600 trillion cells in the human body communicate with each other at the cellular level. Optimal health is achieved at the cellular level, where wellness begins. If you supply the right building materials, God designed the body to do the work to maintain health and those healthy cells are the foundation for a healthy body. Eight simple dietary sugars (monosaccarides), most of which are no longer found in abundance in the standard modern diet, are now known to form the very words of life at the cellular level. Unfortunately, in our foods today, we do not receive these eight essential monosaccarides but only two of them. The research and development company that we represent has a proprietary and proven product that provides the "missing link" answer to this optimal health challenge! The definition of a successful entrepreneur is simply a forward looking business person who sees a trend coming and then gets there first with the products or services that will be in demand. In that regard, Dr. Paul Zane Pilzer, a renowned economist who predicted the growth of the E-commerce industry before it actually existed, recently stated that there are 3 worldwide "storms" brewing right now. They are: 1) the Internet (E-commerce), 2) the Home-Based Business surge, and 3) growth in the Wellness Industry. He said that over the next 10 to 15 years, these 3 will be coming together to create "The Perfect Storm"! Worldwide, "baby boomers" presently account for approximately 1 billion of the 6 billion people on planet Earth. I recently heard an illustration of the timing and trend of the baby-boomers. It was likened to the magnitude of pushing a basketball through a garden hose. If one can predict what $1 billion people will want to buy in the future, that is, if one can get in front of that basketball moving through time and be ready to provide needed products and services, then that person has an incredible opportunity! In that regard, Dr. Pilzer has some good advice: He states that anyone who positions himself to take advantage of supplying wellness information and/or products to this market stands to make a literal fortune in this next decade. In any economy, there are people making money and others that are barely getting by. Your business should entail looking at what industries are expanding or are about to expand. We recommend to not just have a loyalty to a job or industry just because you were educated in it or because you have been there for a very long time. We recommend that you immediately get in front of this large trend. As the baby boomers move into their 50’s and 60’s, they want more than the absence of disease. As Dr. Pilzer says “Boomers are refusing to passively accept the aging process.” Their desire to continue feeling and looking well has set the stage for a huge surge in the wellness industry.Dr. Pilzer says that over half of the population is now taking a pro-active approach to their health and have been over the last 5 to 10 years. He is predicting the health and nutrition industry to become a $1.0 TRILLION industry by 2012, meaning that it is going to be one of the fastest growing industries over the next decade. This spells "Opportunity!" Please contact us if you have interest in our products and/or groundfloor business opportunity. Thank You!

Filling with laser instead of traditional drill: save more teeth?

Did I read someplace correctly that one of the advantages with the laser drill is that the dentist could save a lot more teeth? True or hype? Are there any disadvanteges?

The Emperor, Change, and the Hermit

The current conditions in the United States has me a bit concerned, so I decided to consult my trusty Crowley deck to give me some insight on the situation(s).  Especially concerning the upcoming elections and economic crisis we are facing.  I wanted to know what we can expect from all of this.  I pulled three cards, one for past present and future. The passing influence for this nation is the Emperor, which could easily be said is George W. Bush and the current administration.
