Alaskan Amber Smooth and Hoppy
Alaskan Amber is a staple at my house, it's good beer for a good price. This ale is an "alt" style beer which means old. That refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall smoothness and flavor.
Richly malty and long on the palette, not the smoothest amber you will ever taste, but it's mild enough to make it very easy to drink. Not much of a head, but has a beautiful amber color. A good beer for the first-time micro drinkers. Pairs well with pizza and hearty Italian dishes.
Alaskan Amber is made from glacier-fed water and a generous blend of the highest quality European and Pacific Northwest hop varieties and premium two-row pale and specialty malts. It was voted "Best Beer in the Nation" in the 1988 Great American Beer Festival Consumer Poll.

Study of a German, Christian Pacifist
The Cost of Moral Leadership: The Spirituality of Dietrich Bonhoeffer
by Geffrey B. Kelly
This is a very comprehensive study of the works of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German Lutheran pastor, theologian, religious martyr who was put to death in 1945 by the Nazis. He was his era's most radical pastor-priest-prophet, a rare Christian leader who spoke and lived his faith in the face of death.
Bonhoeffer is a very interesting character in history. On the one hand he was a pacifist who embraced prayer as the purifying bath into which the individual and the community must enter into everyday. He believed that to be free is not to be free from God but to be free from untruth.
On the other hand, Bonhoeffer who was completely against Nazi nationalism, participated in an attempt to assasinate Adolf Hitler, this led to his arrest and eventually to his execution by hanging.
This book focuses on the theologian's ideas of moral leadership. It considers his Christocentric spirituality and the elements in his thought, such as compassion, soliderity with the oppressed, and community. It is a study tha reflects the complexity of Bonhoeffer's thought, which was not an unquestioned absolute pacifism, but one that responded to each crises as it arose.

Boots with Skinny Jeans Still in Style
With boots and skinny jeans becoming two of the hottest trends this fall, one of the most popular looks is to pair the two together. Don’t be shy about it – skinny jeans and boots look great together! If you’re planning to tuck your jeans into the boots, skinny jeans are your best bet, as they will not bunch and will be more comfortable inside the boot.
Try mixing up this look by tucking other skinny pants (not just jeans) into your boots, or by wearing ballerina flats with your jeans. Or for a dressier look, try pairing skinny jeans with high heels, which creates the illusion of longer legs. All of these looks are super hot right now.
If you’re wondering how to wear those stylish tall boots, check out this website.

The war on Green Mountain coffee
As I'm sure most of you west-coast coffee drinkers have heard, Seattle-based Tully's coffee has sold its wholesale and distribution business to Vermont-based Green Mountain coffee Roasters. This does not affect the chain's retail businesses, which will be under the same ownership and management. However, as a Seattle resident and a lover of Tully's coffee, I have a few bones to pick with this development...
I went to college in New Hampshire; all of our cafeterias but one brewed Green Mountain, and no matter where I was on campus I would treck to that one cafeteria because Green Mountain is like drinking hot water flavored with used paper coffee filters. Brewed Green Mountain has far more in common with instant coffee (I was going to say with bad instant coffee, but that would be redundant) than with the deep, rich flavor of Tully's drip (sorry to be a coffee snob, but I am a Seattle-ite!). New Englanders don't mind bad coffee; they all drink Dunkin Donuts, after all. But a friendly warning to Green Mountain--if you take over Tully's wholesale and try to sell your weakling blend under the Tully's name, there will be hell to pay. Which leads me to my second point...
Green Mountain is taking over the Tully's roasting plant, in the former location of the Ranier Brewery. For anyone who feels warm and fuzzy inside (ok ok, that may just be all of the caffeine) at the giant "T" sign as you drive south on Interstate 5 through Seattle, this is a travesty. As a brewery and then a roasting plant this place is a Seattle landmark and has always been controlled by Seattle companies; even though I lived in New England for the majority of the last half decade, the thought of this iconic building under east coast ownership makes my blood boil!
Green Mountain has apparently been seeking to gain a foothold in the west, and to this end has pursued and purchased Tully's wholesale division. This is like a Los Angeles chain attempting to sell cheese steaks in Philly. If you want a good Vermont product, try Ben & Jerry's or maple syrup. Don't unpack your bags in the northwest, Green Mountain. You won't be here long.
The Latte Report has officially declared blog-war on Green Mountain coffee roasters, and will be following all subsequent developments closely.
