Maldita Vecindad y los Hijos del 5o Patio are touring in the states for the next few months. I'm really bummed out that they're not coming to my hometown, these guys are really good, especially live. They're from Mexico so expect the music to be in Espanol, but you really don't need to be fluent in Spanish to understand that Maldita Vecindad is a group of crazy, but talented Mexicans. The lead singer, Roco wears a pachuco outfit, and the rest of the band looks like a medley of grungy rockers. Maldita Vecindad is high energy, hyper-punk with horns. They're considered ska, but they're definitely no denying where they're from. There are elements of Mexican regional music in their songs. Maldita Vecindad has a unique and eclectic sound, they are a bit dated, though. But nonetheless worth checking out. They're a whole hell of a lot better than the crap that's out there right now posing as alternative. These guys are uncompromising artists, they take risks. It's refreshing. Check them out.

Hey guys! I leave for Basic on November 24, 2002. I have heard various things about being promoted to E-3 with a six year enlistment. Is this true? I am going to train for Combat Control...if that doesn't work out, then I am guaranteed for Security Forces-airborne training. What is the additional pay for airborne and special duty? Anyone else leave on the 24? Please let me know. I would certainly appreciate any information or tips about BMT that you could pass along to make my transition a lot smoother.

This is a messed up story that comes to us from the state of Georgia. A man is suing the state of Georgia for not returning his 500, turtles that they confiscated during an investigation related to the possession of said turtles. Steve Santhuff the owner of the rare turtles, was acquitted in February, but he has not gotten his critters back. Not only that, 200 of his turtles which range from the endangered to the local more common variety, have died since being in state custody. There's all kinds of red-tape keeping this man from his pets, and the case is expected to go to Supreme Court in a couple of months. We hope Mr. Santhuff gets the remainder of his turtle collection and that he is compensated for the emotional distress he really must be experiencing. You can't keep a man from his turtles.
