The following list are all the fields that are available when creating a new article. These are arranged here in the order you find them on-screen when creating an article.
- Draft mode: Check this box to save your work without submitting it for review. If you do not select this option, your article will be sumbitted for editor approval and publishing. If you have an article returned to you for more work by an editor, your article will automatically be check off as "draft mode". After you have re-worked the article, you must uncheck draft mode before saving in order to resubmit the article to an editor. See the posting on workflow for more details.
Field in the "Create Article Body" Tab
- Title: Please avoid long titles and excessive punctuation within the title. Titles should always be unique (no repeats please!). Use the subtitle field for longer explanations/titles.
- Subtitle: Use the subtitle to provide a short "topic sentence" or preview of the article's content. The subtitle appears in some areas of the klat network as the "teaser" or preview of your article.
- Body: This is the main bulk of your article. Please be sure to use the spell check and to add a page break (the last button on the toolbar). Instructions for adding images or video are given in a separate topic. If you are pasting content from a fdifferent text editor, please be sure that the editor does not include excessive page breaks, unusual formatting, or exotic HTML. Tip: If you prefer to write in HTML, click "disable rich-text" just below the text editor. This is also a good way to troubleshoot display issues.
- Attribution/Credits: Please list any credits for content and/or media in the article. Feel free to link to sources.
Fields in the "Categorize Your article" Tab
- Tags: Enter as many comma-separated tags as you like to help categorize and describe your article. Although most tags do NOT get their own page, the tags are used in on-site search engines as well as by klat's patented technology to help crosspost and organize the network.
- Attach This Article to a Series: You can attach your article to any pre-existing series using this tool. If you do, the series page will include this article in it's listing of associated articles. Additionally, you article will display a label and link to the series page to let the reader know that this article is part of a series. Please read the section on adding series pages for more information on how to create, manage, and use the series tool.
Fields in the "Enhance Your Article" Tab
- Select a Preview Picture: Use this field to select an image from your article's body or to upload a new image that will be used as a preview picture for your article. Click select media; click "library" - if you have added pictures to your post, they should be at or near the top of the thumbnails displayed. Pick one, or upload a new pic.
- Promote to klat.com: Select one or more topic areas from the list provided. This will promote your article to the Klat.com home page, and give it a category there.
